Ebba's community never achieved a lasting improvement in its nightly activities. Shortly after Ebba's death, the monastery was accidentally burned down in 683AD. This was said to have been an act of God resulting from the sins of the community. The monastery was not replaced. (or was it simply that the location had proved too cold and draughty a place to stay?)
