Three holy places

In 1188 the monks of St Cuthbert from Coldingam built a stone oratory (Or) or chapel apparently over the site of Ebba's monastery. It had an altar dedicated to the Lord and St Ebba. Nearly all the miracles associated with Ebba took place here.

There was a holy spring on top of urbs Coludi (Sp1), but it was often dry in summer. Possibly it was set in a saucer-like depression designed to catch the surface water.

At the bottom of the hill was the holy Spring of St Ebba (Sp2). This is most likely the spring still running at the small bay called the Well Mouth.
