The remains of the other Priory Buildings

This is the view looking S.E. from near the present Church Door.

To the right of the figure are the remains of the Refectory (eating area and below it storage cellars which also contained a fire to give warmth in winter). Its size had been slightly larger than the present Church. The figure is walking along one of the cloisters (walkways) arranged around a central square garth (open spaces).

The photos below relate to the left edge of this photograph.

This small section of cut stone exceeds the quality of the stone used in other monastic buildings at Coldingham. This belonged to the Chapter House already mentioned and shown in the illustration of the model.

The following two prints show some window openings at the east end of the Chapter House. Their positions and designs were incorporated in the model.

Looking at the prints, it appears that the ruins are sinking. In fact the area was covered with about a 2m depth of rubble from Cromwell's destruction. Nature had gradually grassed over the scar.
